Community CPR Course

Course description:

The community CPR course is designed to provide lay rescuers the fundamental skills and confidence to perform CPR on adult, children, or infants. This course will teach participants how to recognize and alleviate airway obstructions. It also teaches the proper use of an AED, and the signs, symptoms, and corrective action for a stroke or heart attack.

Course length:

  • Approximately two hours

Intended audience:

This course is strongly recommended for all of the general public. This course will not fill the requirements for healthcare providers.

ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)

The ACLS course builds on the foundation of life saving basic life support for healthcare providers’ skills, emphasizing the importance of continuous high-quality CPR. This advanced course highlights the importance of team dynamics and communication as well as systems of care. The course also addresses immediate post cardiac arrest care. ACLS also covers airway management and related pharmacology.

Course length:

  • Initial course approximately 12 hours
  • Renewal course approximately five hours

Intended audience:

Physicians, nurses, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, staff in intensive care units or emergency or critical care departments, and other professionals who may respond to a cardiovascular emergency.

PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Course description:

The PALS course is designed to provide pediatric healthcare providers with the knowledge and skills necessary to efficiently and effectively manage critically ill infants and children and help improve outcomes.

Course length:

  • Initial course approximately 12 hours
  • Renewal course approximately six hours

Intended audience:

Pediatricians, emergency room personnel, family, and other physicians, physician assistants, nurses and nurse practitioners, paramedics, respiratory therapists, and other providers required to initiate and direct advanced life-support in pediatric emergencies.

No Panic Please

FirstMed Ambulance offers its No Panic Please! course and ambulance tours at local schools. The program complete with a presentation, posters, coloring books and a Jr. EMT badge is geared for children in Kindergarten through third grade. No Panic Please! offers interactive learning activities including touring an ambulance. The program helps children learn what to expect during a medical emergency and an ambulance response.  They also learn that even though many changes are occurring in their bodies when they are suddenly hurt or scared, they can choose to Act, but Calmly regardless of how they feel or how others are behaving.
